Ferry to Newfoundland

We drove the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton, saw the power plant standing at Point Aconi and a stretch of beach, and watched seagulls fly over North Sydney as we headed for the ferry. From North Sydney, the ferry carried us across the Atlantic Ocean to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland.

At Codroy Valley Beach Provincial Park, rain kept us parked for several days. When it finally cleared on August 15th, the sky opened up with stars. “What a sky!” we posted, watching the Milky Way spread across the dark. A sunrise came the next morning.

We drove to Blow Me Down Provincial Park and hiked the trails there. It was a funny day on the road. Near New Ferolle Point, a caribou stepped out in front of us. “Caribou!!!!” we shouted, and then there was a fish.

At Port au Choix, we found a bread oven and ran into other van lifers who were following along—maybe we’ll meet on the road again. We pushed through Flowers Cove in rain and wind, walked the thrombolites trail, visited L’Anse Au Meadow and Grenfell Historical, grabbed coffee at Rebel Coffee House, and ended at Norris Point with a lobster roll.
